University of Mpumalanga students demand 0% increase

University of Mpumalanga (UMP) students has joined the “Fees must fall” protest today, apparently shut down all the varsity gates closed allowing no one inside.

MBOMBELA-The protests have occurred at the University of Cape Town, Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Stellenbosch University, University of Fort Hare, Wits University, and most recently University of Mpumalanga .

One of the Student Representative Council members at UMP who remain anonymous stated they have just submitted their memorandum to the Varsity head department, and they only need 0% in higher education fees.

He continue saying, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande’s announcement on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached to cap fee increases at six percent has not been well to their throats, and they will not write exams if this matter is not resolved.

Today early it was reported by News24 that heavy police presence inside the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court where supporters have gathered for the appearance of six people arrested for the protest at Parliament and Citizen recently reported University of Free State students protests despite interdict.

South African President, Jacob Zuma would also meet students and university management representatives on Friday to try and end the wave of protests against tuition fee increases.

Singer and songwriter Simphiwe Dana and rapper AKA have been supporting the protesting student at Witwatersrand University as they joined them and spend much time.
