MBOMBELA- The MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs (COGTA), Ms Refilwe Mtshweni has expressed her satisfaction following the successful prosecution of an initiation school owner.
Mr Jabulani Mlombo was found guilty on 17 counts of sexual abuse, while his wife, Ms Sister Khoza was found guilty on 2 counts of assault by the High Court seated in Mbombela. Mr Mlombo and his wife operated an illegal initiation school in Masoyi, near Hazyview. Mlombo was sentenced today to 17 life sentences and his wife 3 years suspended sentence.

Mtshweni had previously warned people who operate illegal initiation schools that the government will take punitive measures against those found to be contravening the legislation that regulate initiation schools.Mtshweni and the institution of traditional leaders in Mpumalanga welcomed the sentencing of Mlombo and his wife.
She says the sentence will serve as a deterrent to people who use the old age traditional practice for their selfish gain.
This year five illegal schools in Mpumalanga were closed down for non-compliance and the owners were arrested. “The sentencing reaffirms our commitment to pin down unscrupulous people who operate illegal schools and those who do not follow proper procedures”, she said.
