Indigenous games kick-off in Limpopo

Indigenous games have a positive impact on the country's socio economic issues such as African identity and cultural diversity.

LIMPOPO- Minister of Sports and Recreation officially open the 10 Annual South Africa’s Indegenous Games Festival in promoting and represervation of African’s sporting codes and heritage last Sunday.

“Indigenous games are part of the sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) Mass Participation Programme”, said Minister of Sports, Hon Fikile Mbalula.

Minister also congradulated Limpopo Province in hosting the magnitude event of games.

“Well done to the City of Polokwane, looking back, the last nine years have provided us with memories of a rich journey in reaffirming our heritage as a nation and truly coming to understand the rich diversity of cultures living on our South Africa shores”, said Minister Mbalula.

He continue saying with all the nine Provinces participating, the vision behind is to take shape and form al diverse provincial group in coming together to embrace varied physical, mental development skills and transfer, promoting African community values, norms, culture and history.

The day started with a road match of 10 km from Polokwane Cricket Club to the Central Business Street and back to the cricket club. As culture is visible to music, language, fashion, cuisine.

The Indigenous games sarves as a key visible identifiers of the African Culture and bring life, as the fashion shows on ramps highlighting Africa culture.

Indigenous Games were launched in the Free State in September 2003, as part of the celebration of South Africa’s culture heritage and diversity, and the need to foster reconciliation and national building, cultural tolerance.
