Unstoppable gymnast aims for the stars

Young children are naturally flexible, but it takes a determined child to stretch beyond the limits and 12-year-old Lungi Nkosi is unstoppable.

MBOMBELA – The energetic young gymnast, who is currently training at Nelspruit Gymnastics Academy, will wear her junior provincial colours with pride when she represents the province at the North Zone Challenge from August 27 to 29 in Kempton Park.

More than 1 000 gymnasts from five provinces will compete at this prestigious competition, which is the top contest for level one to three gymnasts and is the junior equivalent of the whole country.

Lungi was selected to represent the province during the Mpumalanga Championships which were recently held in Ermelo where she came first overall.

One of her best qualities, says her head coach, Ms Marie Putter, is balance and she won two gold medals on the balance beam and vault.

“What I love about this little girl is her willingness to learn, and that she works hard with so much perseverance. I’m confident that she’ll skyrocket at the challenge,” said Putter.

For Lungi, her focus is not only set on the upcoming competition but also on the future. The tough little girl who gave up ballet so she could keep her eye fixed on gymnastics, is considering a career in the field.

“I express myself better in gymnastics and although I’ll study other things, this will be my number-one priority,” says the shy gymnast. Her coach doesn’t doubt that Lungi will be successful in gymnastics as her willingness to work hard and strength to persevere have developed her talent.

“She is considered to be a gymnast that can achieve great heights,” adds Putter.

All the best for Lungi and all eyes will be on her. May she bring in more medals this coming weekend.
