Party distance itself from conference lists

"We wish to remind members of the ANC that our profound document of leadership selection, Through the Eye of the Needle"

MBOMBELA – The ANC in the province has distanced itself from any list containing names of preferred candidates to be nominated during the forthcoming provincial elective conference, scheduled for October.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, members of the provincial executive committee led by secretary, Mr Lucky Ndinisa, his deputy Ms Violet Siwela, deputy chairperson, Mr David Dube, treasurer, Mr Andries Gamede and spokesperson, Mr Simon Sikhosana said the circulation of any lists before the actual conference itself was illegal and only wanted to sow division in the organisation.

Ndinisa said there were people who were hell-bent on destroying the ANC and were using their names as PEC members to further create division. He said they didn’t know and were not part of these faceless people and the lists that were circulated.

“In a few weeks, the ANC in the province has seen the manufacturing of illegal, unconstitutional and distractive list which purport to be having the support of the leadership of the ANC in the province in particular, the officials.

“We want to say as a collective that we don’t know this list. The ANC constitution and policy documents are very specific on the procedure in terms of nominations of leaders and that must be followed to the letter.

Any member or group that will be found to be calling meetings of the ANC members or branches to hand over any list that is not generated in a constitutional structure, disciplinary actions shall be taken,” said Ndinisa.

He added, “We wish to remind members of the ANC that our profound document of leadership selection, Through the Eye of the Needle, directs us that, to select candidates and ultimately electing leaders is not like the natural selection of evolution where things develop by chance.

It must be a conscious and well-considered act on the part of each ANC member. The call for unity and cohesion of the ANC is, however, not to deter and undermine the rights and duties of ANC members as defined in Rule 5 genuinely partake in a process to determine leadership of the ANC at all levels.”
