Traffic college to be opened soon

Delight has been expressed by residents at Mkhuhlu as they noticed that the traffic college is about to be completed, which will open more opportunities for the youth in the community.

MKHUHLU – The construction of the provincial Traffic College which is situated in this area, within the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, is on track and will finish on record time as planned.

Speaking to the premier, Mr David Mabuza, during his site visit to the college, he said government was on track and will officially open it in October 2016.“I am satisfied with the work done so far. It gives us hope that the college will be opened for business next year, October.

We are going to assist and ensure that we increase the number of traffic officials to be trained in the college,” said Mabuza.
Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Mr Vusi Shongwe has welcomed and thanked Mabuza for pledging to increase the number of traffic officers to be enrolled when the college kicks off.

Mabuza also announced that four more hostel blocks will be added to the college in order to accommodate more learners. Initially, the
college was to cater for 160 trainees but Mabuza said that the number was too small as the college must also cater for refresher courses for officer all over the province.

The visit to the college was part of the Operation Vuka Sisebente launch that was held in Mkhuhlu. The Premier and all his MEC’s
together with Executive Mayors from different Municipalities in the province and the Traditional Leaders Executive were part of the programme.

Mabuza emphasized that all municipalities will be expected to use the provincial college to train their traffic officers. MEC Shongwe said Mabuza’s intervention will create more job opportunities as more trainees will be enrolled while it assist the government in improving road safety in the long run.

He added the additional funding towards the college clearly shows
government’s intentions to boost road safety initiatives and traffic law enforcement. The administration block and accommodation facility for the 160 trainees is expected to be completed in October this year and the first intake will be done in year 2016.

The college is expected to be fully completed in 2016 and all law enforcement courses such as advance driving and firearm handling will also be offered.

MEC Shongwe had earlier this year mentioned during the department’s Policy and Budget Speech that over R118 million has been budgeted to complete the college.
