Operation Fiela yields positive results

Since the inception of this operation, we as the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga have seen an over whelming support from all role players and appreciate all the hard work.

MBOMBELA- The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen (Adv) Mark Magadlela has applauded the sterling job done by the security agencies and other role players in making sure that Operation Fiela always becomes a success.

“Since the inception of this operation, we as the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga have seen an over whelming support from all role players and appreciate all the hard work. It has also surfaced that the community we serve with pride welcomes the operation and even demands it. We will continue to provide service to the benefit of the community as enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa,” said Magadlela.

Between July 30 and August 1,Operation Fiela was conducted at the Witbank Cluster where concentration was more in Vosman, Witbank and Delmas and the results are as follows: A majority of suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs, 86 illegal immigrants were arrested, 30 traffic violation fines were issued, 23 taxis were impounded for violating the Road Traffic Act, six vehicles were discontinued, 18 people were arrested for drunk and driving, eight for dealing in counterfeit goods, one for bribery and nine wanted suspects were traced and nabbed.

Other suspects were also arrested for variety of crimes and a range of unlawful items were confiscated by the role players, drugs, liquor, dagga, counterfeit cigarettes and tablets to name a few. Magadlela said the Operation Fiela is on core with the sentiments derived from the Code of Conduct which states that members police commit themselves to creating a safe and secure environment for all people in South Africa. “We are surely participating in endeavours aimed at addressing the causes of crime, preventing all acts which may threaten the safety or security of the community and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” concluded Magadlela.
