Policing Union brings smile to pensioners

This was done as part of celebrating Mandela Month coupled with the Union’s yearly outreach programmes to the needy, especially elders as they are the fountain of wisdom and knowledge and they had fought so hard for the freedom of the country.

PIENAAR – Members of the South African Policing Union (Sapu) together with Pienaar SAPS and other stakeholders, recently donated food parcels, blankets and clothes to the needy elders of Phakama Drop-in Centre in Zwelisha to the delight of these pensioners.
“We did this as part of celebrating Mandela Month coupled with the union’s yearly outreach programmes to the needy, especially elders as they are the fountain of wisdom and knowledge and they had fought so hard for the freedom of the country,” explained Samuel Mavimbela, the union’s deputy chairperson.
“Next year will celebrate the day at a centre yet to be identified in the Nkangala Region,” he added. Mavimbela added that union’s activities also included a recently held march against xenophobic attacks which was attended by throngs of people from around Pienaar.

 

 

Other stakeholders including Buscor, Mbombela Bikers, government departments, and representatives from the Somalian and Ethiopian community who signed a pledge to fight tooth and nail against xenophobic attacks.
