Angel a devil in disguise

Other victims were called in and they all identified him from the tattoo on his arm that is "Satan".

PIENAAR – An alleged gay man accused of raping school girls, was sentenced to 60 years in jail after he admitted that he “wanted to experience how it felt to sleep with a woman”.

He was sentenced at the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court last week.

Angel Phokane was found guilty on different charges of rape which he had committed during February, where he was targeting learners in various schools such as KaBokweni, Zwelisha and Clau Clau. It’s alleged that Phokane was using dirty tricks to get close to the learners as it was discovered that he used to ask them to assist him with directions to schools.

Sometimes he would ask their principals names, as if he wanted to drop something off.

He would accompany them, then along the way, when passing by nearby bushes, he would rape them.

In one of the shocking incidents that Phokane committed, he attacked three girls aged 16 to 18 years. He stabbed one of the victims twice before raping her.

It was revealed in court that he showed no remorse for his actions and it was further revealed that he attacked a young girl who was taking a short cut to school.

Incidents of rape are one of the serious crimes that have reached a crisis level in the province.

Phokane was finally put behind bars by local police after he raped a victim in Pienaar, who managed to identify him.

Other victims were called in and they all identified him from the tattoo on his arm that is “Satan”.

The chairman of Lowveld Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual and Transsexual, Mr Joy Kunene, said, “First of all, I don’t think the person is gay because gays don’t rape women. According to my knowledge, a gay is not attracted to women.

“If a person is gay, he dates males. I think this man was using the sexuality in a wrong way and we are very disappointed to hear that people are using sexuality to fulfil their desires.”
