Police send message against xenophibia

In a bid to do their bit against the xenophobic attacks, which recently rocked the country and left seven foreign nationals dead, Mbombela-based members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) invited the Swaziland Police soccer team to a game of soccer at the Valencia Sports Centre last Saturday.

The two said they had good working and social ties and would not allow a few criminals to spoil their healthy relationship.

“There may be borders between us but at the end of the day, we are all Africans. We are brothers and sisters. We have noted with great concern these xenophobic attacks against our fellow Africans and we would like to condemn it in the strongest terms.

“For us coming together here with our Swaziland brothers and sisters is a sign that we are united and are all concerned about these attacks. The message we would like to send out there is that we are all foreigners in another country, so let us stop killing one another,” said the organisers.

The Mbombela team will also take a trip to Swaziland where they will be hosted to a game of soccer and other forms of entertainment.

Besides the game of soccer, the men and women from the Kingdom of Swaziland, who arrived in Mbombela on Friday, were treated to the city’s nightlife and other places of attraction and only departed on Sunday.

The game was a friendly encounter ending with the home team winning 7-4.
