TONGA – Two suspects identified as Raphael Mkhatshwa and Sikhumbuzo Makubo, have appeared at the Tonga Magistrate Court, for allegedly pouring poison in a bucket of water belonging to a 34-year-old man.

According to Tonga SAPS, the victim alleges that he was at his residence in Ka-Mdladla, when the two suspects came complaining that he must pay them their money as they helped him build the toilet.

“He further alleges that in the early morning of the following day, he found a bottle of poison in his bucket and he went to report the incident to the chief.

The chief then called the suspects for questioning and eventually they agreed that they are responsible for putting poison in the bucket. The matter was then reported to the police and the suspects were arrested,” said Lt Mzwandile Nyambi of Tonga SAPS.

The suspects appeared at the Tonga Magistrate’s Court and are being remanded in custody.

“They will reappear again on May 5, for bail application. The station Commander, Brigadier Velisiwe Mdaka, has expressed gratitude to the community for not taking the matter into their own hands, but allowing the law to take its course.

She has further appealed to the community to be careful when using water from the tanks or buckets from outside as they might be poisoned,” Nyambi concluded.
