Dad to appear in court for drowning baby

The suspect took the child to another room where he found a bucket of water, drowned her and left.

PIENAAR – A 20-year-old man arrested for allegedly drowning his two- month-old baby in a bucket of water will appear for his formal bail application today.

This incident happened at the suspect’s parental home on April 9 after his girlfriend and mother of the victim paid him a visit. An argument apparently ensued after the man’s girlfriend asked for money for purchasing some baby essentials.

According to Lt Jabu Ndubane, the infant’s mother apparently left her child with the suspect in their room. The suspect took the child to another room where he found a bucket of water, drowned her and left.

“On his way out, he met the child’s mother in the kitchen and gave her an undisclosed amount of money before leaving the house,” explained Ndubane.

She added that when the child’s mother did not find the child in his bedroom where she had left them, she called her boyfriend
to ask where the child was.

“He told her to look for her in the other room because she
was persistently asking for money for the child,” she said.

The family found the lifeless body of the infant in the bucket. .
The suspect, Mr Lindokuhle Maluka, is expected to appear before the KaNyamazane Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application.
