Con artist targets job seekers

Anyone who has fallen victim to a similar scam is encouraged to open charges at their nearest police stations.

MBOMBELA- Job seekers are warned not to fall prey to con artists who pose as potential employers.

This warning comes after this newspaper received several complaints from job seekers especially old women who had placed their classified adverts with their contact details looking for jobs in our sister publication Lowvelder.

One of the victims who spoke on condition of annonymity said she received several calls from a certain man told her to meet him in town to be employed at Themba hospital as a cleaner but once she reached town the man called to say he was either busy or in an unfavourable place so the women must deposit a R1 000 for him at Shoprite.

“She never game me her numbers and always call with a private number,” she said.

The woman added that she then realised that the caller was not a genuine employer but a crook. She said many people who had placed their details in the newspaper had fallen victims to similar cases.

She added that they don’t trust anyone anymore because people seemed to be taking advantage of their unfortunate circumstances. “I once received a call from a man who sounded White, he said he had was married and wants me to be domestic worker as well as his play the role of being a wife to him,” he said.

Anyone who has fallen victim to similar instances is encouraged to open charges with their nearest police stations.
