Elderly are victims of abuse

The Chairperson of public participation, Mr Clifford Mkasi said that it’s time to unite and bring back the dignity of elderly people in our societies.

MBOMBELA – “Elderly people are victims of abuse in our communities.” This was revealed during the Senior Citizen’s parliament session held at the provincial legislature.

The Chairperson of public participation, Mr Clifford Mkasi said that it’s time to unite and bring back the dignity of elderly people in our societies.

“These days elderly people are victims of abuse, they are raped by young people who are suppossed to be protecting them. This is very disturbing, we need to fight this in our communities.

“As government we will continue and work tireless to ensure that the citizens are always safe because they are very important in our societies and we are who we are today because of them.

“I believe that without them we are nothing,” said Mkasi.

One of the participants, Gogo Eminah Shongwe from Block C under the Nkomazi local municipality, said, “We are very happy that we managed to get an opportunity to voice out problems that we face in communities.

“What worries me when we talk about elderly people’s matters, is the lack of respect from our children,” went on Gogo.
