TONGA – An alleged mentally disturbed mum (24) bit and scratched her one-year-old daughter to death.
The shocking incident happened at Block B Trust near Tonga on March 17 around 14:00.
According to Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, the local police spokesperson, they received the complaint of murder around 14:00 and when they arrived at the scene, they found the deceased’s body lying on the ground with teeth bites and scratch marks on her neck.
“The mother, who is suspected to be mentally challenged, was apprehended and taken to the local hospital under police supervision,” he said. He added that the motive of the murder is not known.
The Station Commander, Brigadier Velisiwe Mdaka has since made an appeal to families and relatives of people living with mental challenges, to look after them and take care of them as they need more attention and also stop leaving babies with unfit people in order to prevent such crimes from occurring.
