Parents plan to rid school of vandalism

''Some people even engage in sexual activities on the premises. The sooner we secure it and rid the community of the illegal drugs, the sooner we will have our school back ".

KANYAMAZANE – Learners and teachers have been dealt a big blow by nyaope addicts who have vandalised their school.

Thandulwazi Primary School has been left with damaged equipment and broken doors when vandals broke into the premises to steal valuable items to sell on the streets.

The school, which is one of the oldest in this township, is among the schools that are always targeted, as previously computers were stolen as well.

When this reporter visited the school, the building was in a bad state with broken windows, falling and lose roofing and electric cables which posed a danger to learners’ lives.

Parents have now embarked on a fund-raising venture to renovate the school.

Mr Phillip Shayanewako said,
“As parents, we realised that we need to do something as a community. It is difficult to put together enough money as many people are unemployed. We are appealing to local businesses to come to our rescue. We need things like window panes, globes and many other items.”

He added that since there were no lights and the corridors were very dark at night, the nyaope addicts took advantage of the situation and vandalised the property unabated.

”Some people even engage in sexual activities on the premises. The sooner we secure it and rid the community of the illegal drugs, the sooner we will have our school back,” he concluded.

Those who are willing to donate can visit the school or contact 013-794-1661.
