Illegal evictions at Tekwane South

Members of the community took turns and watched over Chauke’s house and family of three children from ages 11, 7 years old to 4 month old baby.

TEKWANE – The war on illegal evictions continues and it is getting uglier with its progression.

Community members are in a rage at how the councillor is dealing with the matter of illegal evictions. “We informed the councillor that we want a meeting to discuss the progression of this matter, but Cllr Joseph Mashaba denied us to do so. He even refused to borrow us the loud hailer so we can call the people to a meeting. He, instead, sent out a loud hailer to announce the ANC’s own meeting at a school at the same time as our meeting. Unfortunately for him, the community saw what his intentions were and did not attend his, but went to the one we called,” said Mr Neto Buchroach.

He continued and said: “We are saddened by our councillor’s response and the way he is dealing with this matter and the community is furious with him so much that they wanted to vote him out of his position as they feel he has failed to serve them as he should. but we were able to calm them down and looked for a solution rather than ousting him from his position.” Mr Oscar Chauke was reportedly arrested on Monday and was denied bail by the court and is to appear in court today. He was charged for illegally buying a house, breaking and entering the house he bought and for not moving out after he was served an eviction notice by the court and he has yet to defend himself because he has been denied platform to speak.

The community is crying out that foul play is at play on how this case is handled in the court because proper procedures are not being followed. “Firstly Oscar is the only one who has been arrested for buying the house when another individual by the name of Benedict Nkosi, is the second buyer of the house, who is the nephew of the person who sold the house, Martha Nkosi, who sold the house to Oscar 10 years ago,” said Neto.

Members of the community took turns and watched over Chauke’s house and family of three children from ages 11, 7 years old to 4 month old baby all the nights their father was jailed without bail protecting them from being forcefully evicted.

His bail application continues tomorrow.
