Death of mom and kids still a mystery

KANYAMAZANE – The community of this area is still shocked by the mysterious death of a Zimbabwean woman and her three children. The woman in her early 30s, was found hanging from the roof of the RDP house she had been renting with her husband and three children at Spot Five section.

Their bodies were found on Saturday after members of the community became worried about their whereabouts and a foul smell which came from the house.

“The gruesome discovery of the lifeless bodies of three children lying on the bed and that of their mother hanging from the roof, was a horrible scene for witnesses and close family members to see,” said members of the community.

WO Andries Skwambane, the local police spokesperson, said the cause of death was not yet known. “At the moment, we don’t know the cause of death, it will only be determined by post mortem.

”He added that an inquest into the deaths had been opened. Skwambane said the incident was the first of its kind in the area. “This is the first time that so many members of one family have died like that and we strongly condemn such acts.

We encourage members of the community to seek assistance from social workers, pastorsand even the police when they have problems, not just to resolve them by taking their own lives,” he said.

Grieving family members and other mourners were found gathered outside the house on Monday morning. That’s where this newspaper learnt that the family was not willing to divulge any information to the media.

“Listen very carefully and don’t put words in my mouth, this matter is very sensitive and we want to handle it peacefully without any interference from journalists who only want to sell their news,” said a member of the family before telling the journalist to leave.
