Beauty pageant finalists off to charm communities

The roadshows kick-off in Bethal, Govan Mbeki Local Municipality where finalists, Abongile Sithole and Thandeka Mathibela originate.

MBOMBELA – Communities in various local municipalities will come face to face with the Top 12 Crowning Miss Mpumalanga 2015 finalists as they embark on responsible gambling activities with principal sponsor, the Mpumalanga Gambling Board (MGB).

Each finalist will have the responsibility of tackling gambling issues in their home areas, and at the same time, MGB will afford the finalists the opportunity to convince the communities to vote for them in the Miss Photogenic that runs from February 23 to March 5.

“We decided, as the main sponsor, to expose the finalists to our real activities on the ground. Most of the finalists come to the auditions with little or no information about the functions of MGB, hence we embarked on this roadshow.

“The queen will, as one of her main functions, be educating communities on responsible gambling. What we discovered during auditions, was the fact that some of their siblings are directly or indirectly affected by lack of responsible gambling to a point we witnessed emotional moments during interviews.

“The role of MGB has turned out to be vital and very significant to be carried out among communities, especially the youth who have become vulnerable to gambling, including the parents, too.

“By the time we complete our roadshows, MGB, together with the finalists, shall have left an indelible mark on the minds of community members. At the same time, the finalists will be more prepared to take over the reins, come the finals on April 11,”
says Ms Judith Khoza, corporate relations manager at MGB.
