ANC condemns violence

"The allies must instead focus on the primary task of uniting our people and uplifting them from poverty and deprivation".

MBOMBELA – The ANC has condemned the violence that erupted at the KaNyamzane Community Hall when its members clashed with their alliance partner members, the SACP before a memorial lecture could be held for the late SACP member, Joe Slovo and Mr Jimmy Mohlala.

According to the provincial secretary of the ANC, Mr Lucky Ndinisa, “The ANC in Mpumalanga is shocked and disturbed by the incident of violence that occurred between the ANC and the SACP supporters in KaNyamazane on Sunday.

“The relationship between the ANC and the SACP is a long-time relationship that fought for the liberation of the people of this country. It is in the ANC policy document that the SACP and Cosatu are the alliance partners. They deal with their programme independently, and, therefore, it cannot be allowed that their gatherings be disrupted.

“We have always said the unity of the alliance is paramount under the leadership of the African National Congress. Unity is now more important given the changed objective conditions we operate in. The alliance is too deeply rooted and entrenched to be disrupted by activities or statements of a few of its members.

“The allies must instead focus on the primary task of uniting our people and uplifting them from poverty and deprivation. alliance that is seen to be besiege with tension, squabbling and conflict does not inspire public confidence.

“It is anti-ANC to promote violence and hooliganism in the name of the ANC. It is in the ANC policy document that we promote unity and avoid factionalism by all means. The ANC Provincial Executive Committee will leave no stone unturned to investigate the matter and deal with those instigators after the outcome of the investigation,” concluded Ndinisa.
