PIENAAR – Violation of the elderly’s rights in our communities is still a huge challenge that needs serious attention.
This has been proved when community members of this area and surroundings were left in shock in a bizarre incident when a 51-year-old man allegedly turned his 74-year-old grandmother into his sex slave.
It was supposedly believed that it was not the first time that the suspect raped his granny as it has been discovered that now the victim is forced to use nappies everyday due to internal injuries that she allegedly sustained during sexual intercourse.
This ordeal has affected the granny to such an extent that she spoils herself uncontrollably when nature calls.
It is alleged that this whole drama started a long time ago when the suspect, who is a relative of the family, requested to stay with the victim since she is too old and not well.
He allegedly said he wouldn’t mind to assist or look after the old woman.
Mpumalanga News learnt that this came to light when the woman’s daughter decided to visit her mother.
When she arrived she faced the shock of her life when she caught the relative red-handed raping her mother.
She sounded the alarm to neighbours to witness the incident.
It has been reported that the perpetrator used to carry the granny into his bedroom where he allegedly raped her uninterruptedly.
On the day of her daughter’s discovery, she was found in his bedroom after her daughter had looked for her in his bedroom.
Spokesperson for the local police station, Lt Jabu Ndubane confirmed the incident and a case has been opened.
“We have arrested a man after he was found raping an elderly person and a case has been opened and the suspect is expected to make an appearance in court very soon,” said Ndubane.
She concluded by urging community members not to look away or ignore such incidents, but they must report them so that the perpetrators could face the music.
This area is renowned in the province as a crime hot spot, especially rape and brutal killings of women.
