Man’s remains still not claimed

Relatives of a male missing person are called to contact Kanyamazane police soon, to avoid the body being given a pauper's funeral.

KANYAMAZANE – The local police are calling on members of the public who are missing a male aged 45 to 50, contact with them.

According to the local police spokesperson, WO Andries Skwambane, the man was burnt to ashes about two months ago in his shack at Ntokozweni section. All his belongings, including ID, also went up in flames.

“His neighbours called him Elvis Phiri and it was suspected that he came from somewhere around Nhlazatshe and Tjakastad and was self-employed as a builder,” he said.

The man apparently left a burning candle before going to sleep, which consequently set the curtains and the whole house on fire.

“No relatives had come forward to identify him and we plead with anyone who has a missing relative or a relative whom they last heard from three months ago, to report to the local police on
013-0794-9700 or Det Cap H Sithole on 082-469-1542,” said Skwambane.

He said relatives should report as soon as possible to avoid a pauper’s burial which is performed for victims after three months, if their next of kin have not been traced.
