Department ready to unveil schools sanitations project

“As a department, we will ensure that water and sanitation infrastructure improves by constructing 1 033 ablution units this financial year".

MBOMBELA – The Mec of Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule will tomorrow be officially unveiling the Schools Sanitation Project at Lehlasedi secondary school at Shatale under the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.

Mpumalanga News learnt that the department this year has prioritised the improvement and rehabilitation of school sanitation facilities, provisioning of water and electrification of schools.

Delivering her policy budget speech early this year, Mhaule was quoted saying:
“As a department, we will ensure that water and sanitation infrastructure improves by constructing 1 033 ablution units this financial year.”

This is intended to instil a sense of pride, restore dignity and ensure that the conditions for teaching and learning are conducive.

This publication also learnt that the department has set aside an amount of R3.5 million and currently 94 sanitation units in six schools have been constructed at Bohlabela district .

Some of the schools that are benefiting from the project include Catseel, Skhila,LM Kganane, Maphuthaditjaba, Letshele and Ximoyo Khosa.

Above that, the department has again set aside R30 million towards the provisioning of 442 sanitation units and providing water supply in four schools.
