With the 2014 edition of the MTN8 underway, the cellular service provider launched the much-anticipated MTN8 Last Journo Standing (LJS) competition and Mpumalanga News’ editor, Bongani Hlatshwayo was crowned the Last Journo Standing of the competition in the province.

Hlatshwayo was awarded an iPad mini worth R6 000. He will join other sports journalists who have also been crowned LJS of the competition from other regions in Johannesburg on Friday. The winner for this year’s edition of the contest will travel to Berlin to watch the Best of Europe in
May 2015.

MTN South Africa’s chief marketing officer, Larry Annetts said, “There are various dimensions that make the MTN8 Wafa Wafa tournament the success it is.

Members of the media are key stakeholders of the tournament and thus we saw it befitting that we continue with this competition that would reward them for their support for the MTN8 and local football in general.” Hlatshwayo said, “It was exciting competing against youngsters whom I thought were well versed with soccer issues, but it turned out I was the most knowledgeable among the lot.

Anyway, tomorrow will be an even tougher one facing the other eight winners from the other provinces.” This exciting competition kicked off on August 26 up to September 22. It features journalists from all over the country going head-to-head in a series of football trivia challenges.

The MTN8 Last Journo competition is by no means an easy quest to conquer and requires participants to have extensive knowledge of football and a good memory.

Tiyani Mabasa of Kick-off magazine, last year’s winner of the LJS competition, won an all-expenses-paid trip to London to watch the English Premiership match between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in March.
