Be warned on bogus advert

Department distanced itself from an advert inviting the interested candidates to apply for admission at the Mpumalanga Nursing on WhatsApp and SMSes.

MBOMBELA – The Department of Health in the province warned the public about an bogus advert making rounds on social networks.

The department hence distanced itself from the advert inviting the interested candidates to apply for admission at the Mpumalanga Nursing College at Themba Hospital on WhatsApp and SMSes.

“The advert is not legitimate and the department distances itself from it, as it does not invite the public to apply for admission via SMS or any social media network but follows the standard government procedure whereby an advert will be placed in a credible local or national newspaper or via internal circulars,” said the department’s MEC Mr Gillion Mashego.

He said he became aware of this scam when a learner called him to enquire about the submission of an application.

“A legitimate advert will contain the department’s letter head, valid office contact numbers, a contact person and a valid postal address,” he added. He warned the public not to fall victim to people who only want to make money from them. He said the department would thoroughly investigate the source of the this advert and disciplinary action would be taken against those involved.

He also urged members of the public to report the matter to the police station if they receive such SMSes.
