Council vows to deliver to the people

MBOMBELA – The municipality will spend R954 million on services infrastructure development in the next three years to address backlogs.

This was announced by the new executive mayor, Cllr Sibusiso Mathonsi, during his budget allocation last week. Mathonsi said, “It is indeed a defining moment for me to table my first budget for 2014/15.

“I would like to assure our citizens that we will indeed deliver on the mandates given to us.” For bulk water infrastructure and reticulation networks, R276 million over the medium-term has been provided while R69 million has been allocated for 2014/15.
The construction work on the bulk water schemes namely, Karino and Nyongane will be continued.

Allocation for new roads and storm-water systems amounts to R181 million over the medium term, and R79 million has been allocated – for 2014/5.
A total of 24 kilometres of bus routes will be upgraded to tar roads. Allocation for renewal and construction of new electricity infrastructure amounts to R82 million over the medium term – R18 million has been allocated for 2014/15.

The number of households to receive electricity in 2014/15 is 700 and four substations will be upgraded at a cost of
R17 million.

Allocation for new sewerage infrastructure and provision of sanitation facilities will amount to R140 million over the medium term – R55 million has been allocated for 2014/15. A total of 402 households will be provided with decent toilets, 832 households will be provided with waterborne sewerage system at a cost of R48 million in 2014/15.
Allocation for construction of new community halls and recreation facilities will amount to R76 million over the medium term. The allocation for 2014/15 will amount to R40 million.

Three new community halls will be constructed at a cost of R18 million.
