MP News takes the honours at Sanlam

Your favourite newspaper, Mpumalanga News, received the highest honour on Friday evening when it was crowned as the Hultzer Trophy winner.

BOKSBURG – Your favourite newspaper, Mpumalanga News, received the highest honour on Friday evening when it was crowned as the Hultzer Trophy winner during the annual Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Sanlam awards at the Birchwood Hotel.

According to the judges’ remarks it was bestowed upon the publication because they were generally impressed with the entries in this category. It is clear that communities are served well by lively, informative and entertaining publications.

“The winning newspaper had a bold layout and made good use of photographs. The focus was on stories the community wanted to read about and the newspaper’s participation in charity events is commended.”

This judging panel comprised renowned journalists who included Mr Joe Thloloe, the director of the Press Council of South Africa, Mr Henry Jeffreys, founding editor-in-chief of The New Age, Fanie Groenewald, ex-journalist at Beeld and former teacher and lecturer at TUT, Mboneni Mulaudzi, managing director of Media Basics, Collin Nxumalo, former editor of Enterprise magazine, Ms Lindsay Clowes, associate professor in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department at the University of the western Cape, Ms Phindile Xaba, editor of The Teacher and a veteran journalist and Mr Mike Mzileni, a respected author and news photographer whose career spans back to the days of The World newspaper, golden City Press, Drum, rand Daily Mail, Post Transvaal and Sowetan.
