Mabuza must be more hands on

Citizens said he had to pull up his socks and his cabinet had to consist of competent people.

MBOMBELA – The preparations for the inauguration of the president, Mr Jacob Zuma and the premiers of various provinces are underway.

On Wednesday, Premier David Mabuza was re-elected to serve another term, leading the citizens of Mpumalanga.

Citizens said he had to pull up his socks and his cabinet had to consist of competent people – not politicians who only focused on living a luxurious life and neglected to serve.

Mpumalanga News interacted with various citizens where they explained what they expected from Mabuza in his second term.

* Ms Hazel Sibambo of Lihawu – “We don’t want to travel the same route we did in the previous term of experiencing service-delivery protests. We have had enough of the lamentations, now the party must deliver. If these leaders fail again, it means they reach the end of the road and must step down to give others a chance to lead instead. Mabuza must not be polite to councillors who fail to deliver. They must be dismissed immediately as bad service delivery was the reason we protested.”

* Mr Siyabonga Masina of Barberton – “This province can’t move forward if corruption is not addressed by our leaders – especially when it comes to issues of employment. As a young person, I have realised that to make it to the top, you must rub shoulders with politicians.

Recently at a hospital in Barberton they hired members of the ANC Youth League, so what will happen to those who were not actively involved in politics?”

Masina added that people had to be employed according to their qualifications, not because they had connections with the elite.

“We must not run away from reality, the politicians are enjoying the benefits of democracy while we are suffering at grass-root level. They forget that our votes are the reason they occupy such high positions.

They need to act now as we have afforded them a second term,” he concluded.
