Brains behind pageant gives thanks to sponsors

She says the sponsors play a pivotal role, not only in the hosting of the show, but in changing the lives of the ordinary girls who participate.

MBOMBELA – The brains behind the successful staging of the annual Crowning Miss Mpumalanga, Ms Gugu Nyarenda says she owes the success of this ever-growing brand to her sponsors, the Mpumalanga Gambling Board, (MGB).

This annual show, which has grown bigger each year, has attracted the attention of many sponsors such as Lavish Online, Samsung, Ubuntu Kraal Guest Lodge and Asikhulumeni Marketing and Communications to name but a few.

“I remember when we started four years ago, very few people believed in this concept, but because we had a vision, we stuck to our commitment of creating a platform that would play a major role in empowering local women, while at the same time, turning them into professional models thus opening many doors for them.

“From the bottom of my heart, I would therefore like to thank the MGB for being with us from the beginning when no one believed in us,” says Nyarenda.

She says the sponsors play a pivotal role, not only in the hosting of the show, but in changing the lives of the ordinary girls who participate.

“I want to reiterate the fact that Miss Mpumalanga is not just about young scandily-clad women parading, but it is about the upliftment, development and empowering of our local young girls. Through this beauty pageant, we are able to take the winners to tertiary institutions to further their studies through the premier’s office bursary fund.

We are able to help give these girls a head start in their journey to womanhood and independency. This is all made possible by our sponsors,” she continues.

With the show entering its fifth year, Nyarenda says she hopes to go a step further and host an even better show next year but says it will all depend on sponsorship. “Next year, we are celebrating our fifth anniversary and we are planning to go even bigger. We want to do something different and out of this world,” she says.

Inspired by this pageant, the other half behind Miss Mpumalanga, Ms Ncobile Nyarenda. has opened her own NQ Boutique, which saw the first range of her clothing label worn by the 12 finalists during the show on Saturday.
