Slowly but surely making a progress

According to the premier goverment is working tirelessly to give people houses.

“Kancane kancane, but we are moving forward and making progress. We may not save all the fish in the sea all at once, but we are sure saving one at a time and working together with the private sector, businesspeople and the general public, we can do more.”

These are words of the provincial premier, Mr David Mabuza whenever he delivers houses to the destitute and homeless, through his initiative now better known as the Kancane Kancane Campaign.

Again last week Mabuza delivered 1 048 houses in various areas within the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.

Of the 1 048 fully furnished upmarket and luxurious legacy houses were sponsored by the giant transport company, Buscor at a value of R3,4 million.

The construction was done by a newly established rapid implementation unit (RIU) announced by Mabuza during his State of the Province Address early this year as part of his intervention in the Department of Human Settlements following a deadlock on the delivery. Handing over the houses, Mabuza said he was grateful for the achievement as it was impacting directly and positively on the lives of the people. “It rests upon us to work as servants of the people.

We have been given this responsibility to run government and to deliver services on behalf of the citizens. It is again my responsibility as the premier of this province to ensure that members of the executive council, municipalities and councillors work according to the expectations of the people.

“With the elections coming up next year, it’s going to be difficult to deliver service as people will have different perceptions about our work. We have done everything to ensure that they get their houses, but we have realised that the challenges are deep-rooted, however, we are determined that step by step, bit by bit and day by day we are getting there,” said Mabuza.

He appreciated the partnership with the private sector, adding that it was bearing fruit and changing the lives of the people for the better.

To date, Mabuza has donated over 150 legacy houses with the help of various sponsors such as Putco, Megabus, MTN, Buscor and many smaller contractors
