Former Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder, Dumisa Ngobe was appointed the head coach of the Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) eMalahleni Campus men’s football team.

Ngcobo takes over from Sibusiso Nhlapho, who is now the coach of the ladies’ football team.

Ngobe comes with a wealth of experience, having played for several Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

He also played abroad for clubs in Malaysia, Vietnam and Turkey. Affectionately known as ‘Sphithiphithi,’ Ngobe was a member of the Orlando Pirates squad that lifted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League trophy in 1995.

He played a key role in helping Pirates to become the Kings of African football.

He won 32 Bafana Bafana caps and also scored during his international debut in 1996 when his goal helped Bafana to overpower Kenya.

He was formerly the head coach of the Mpumalanga Black Aces development team.

He was also Aces’ assistant coach from 2008 until 2011. Ngobe is a qualified coach, as he holds a South African Football Association (SAFA) Introductory Coaching Certificate, as well as a Generic Sport Coaching qualification.

In his first match since he took charge of the team, he guided them to victory and helped them to qualify for the University Sport South Africa (USSA) Championships, which will be hosted by TUT at the Pretoria Campus in December.

“I intend to promote and ensure that talented student footballers who live in eMalahleni are channelled into professional football within the province and eventually country-wide,” Ngobe said.

“This can only be achieved through a partnership and cooperation with the institution’s Department of Sport and Recreation, the Mpumalanga Sport and Recreation Department, and the private sector,” he added.

“The underlying motive is to work together for the benefit of TUT, its students and the community it serves.”
