Four Pienaar secondary schools to battle it out for title of champions in soccer tourney

The final of the Star Class Mbombela Secondary School Champions League tournament will take place at KaNyamazane Stadium on October 14.

With four group stage matches done and dusted, the focus is on the knockout round of the Star Class Mbombela Secondary School Champions League tournament. This tournament officially kicked off on August 23 and features 22 secondary schools within the City of Mbombela.

The format of the competition consists of four groups. The top school in each group advanced to the semi-finals. After an intense five weeks of games, during which a total of 50 soccer matches were played across all groups, Fundinjobo Secondary School, Mayibuye Secondary School, Thembeka Secondary School and Hillaria Mthethwa Secondary School all came out top in their different groups.

These four schools proved how much and how long they have been hungry for such a prestigious tournament as they rattled their group stage opponents without any defeats.

“This is what we wanted to see. Yes, the results of the four schools are truly remarkable, but above all that we want to thank all the schools, learners, circuit representatives and communities who supported all our games,” said the Star Class Entertainment CEO, Innocent Magagula, who is the main organiser of this competition.

“When we started this project last year our main goal was to bring unity among all schools in the Ehlanzeni District and with sport being the unifier, we decided to go on this route. After what we have accomplished in just two years, we promise nothing but more good things to come out of this project,” Magagula said.
