Huge wind uproots a tree in Malalane

Two families were awoken by a loud crash as a tree fell on top of one of their roofs just after midnight.

The Muller and Basson families were woken up by a loud crash just after midnight on Monday, September 11, when a huge tree fell on top of the Mullers’ roof at Fish Eagle.

The wind that hit Malalane uprooted a tree that destroyed parts of the roof and the precast wall between the two houses.

“It was just after load-shedding when we heard this loud noise outside. It was scary enough for me to think it might have been the end of the world. We went to check, and that’s when we realised the tree had been uprooted, and had fallen on top of our roof. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the damage did not go beyond the small part of the roof and the precast wall,” said Piet Muller.

Muller said this is the first time they have experienced something of this nature in the neighbourhood. “I have been staying here for a very long time, and this is the first time something like this happened. We are currently cutting down some of the trees to ensure that it never happens again.”
