Mpumalanga actress gets part in ‘Isitha: The Enemy’ on e.tv

This actress has also appeared in Muvhango on SABC 2, Ufelani on Moja Love and Ubetina on SABC 1.

A local actress recently bagged a role on Isitha: The Enemy, a telenovela on e.tv which has millions of viewers in South Africa. Phindile Sifunda-Mashabane from Nhlalakahle plays the role of a royal servant in an Eswatini royal compound.

“I am so happy that Black Brain Pictures gave me this opportunity to showcase my talent. I wish it can grow my character and I am praying for more opportunities through other seasons of this telenovela so they can showcase me more. Black Brain is always looking for fresh talent and giving new talent more opportunities.”

Her journey in acting started when she was 12 years old.

“There were people that came to my school in 2005. They were looking for people with talent and I was chosen. We then went to a theatre in Witbank and from that day I never looked back. My first theatre production was titled Arise Black Child and I played the role of a main character. I was inspired by my two favourite actresses, Connie Ferguson and Sindi Dlathu, from a very young age as I watched them on TV.”

The first time Sifunda-Mashabane appeared on TV was in a local drama series called, Kantsi Ngenteni, which aired on Soweto TV.

“After this I appeared on Muvhango on SABC 2, Ufelani on Moja love and Ubetina on SABC 1.” She said it was not always easy and there were some challenges that she faced.
“Among the challenges I have encountered are the things that agencies require from us. Some take advantage of you and just end up getting money without helping you. Some are outright criminals and I decided to do away with agencies and work as a freelance actress. I want to thank Lomalanga Mgwenya and Magugu Mhlabane for being supportive,” she explained.

Sifunda-Mashabane said her message to young people in Mpumalanga is that they must be patient.

“Do not rush to join agencies and sign contracts that might bind you in the future. The right time will come. I encourage you to attend acting workshops and do online auditions. Grow your social media pages for more followers; many opportunities can come through social media. Post your talents and skills; you will never know who is watching.”
Her dreams include getting a role as a female lead character who is not scared to stand up for their beliefs, and who is strong, passionate and immovable.
