Acornhoek Clinic opens to improve women’s health

This launch by Mpumalanga Department of Health was in partnership with the Breast Health Foundation and Tshemba Charitable Foundation.

It was a memorable day as the MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, launched a women’s clinic and services at Tintswalo Hospital on Friday.

Manzini was accompanied by the chairperson of the hospital board, Patricia Ngobeni. This was in partnership with the Breast Health Foundation and Tshemba Charitable Foundation. These two foundations are partnering with the Department of Health to improve the provision of women’s health, particularly in fighting cancer.

“These services will improve early detection and management of cervical and breast cancer, and reduce mortality of women diagnosed with cervical and breast cancer, and reduce teenage pregnancy.”

The Breast Health Foundation will focus on providing counselling for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, support, educating communities, doing screenings for cervical cancer and pap smears, family planning, training staff members about the warning signs of both breast and cervical cancer, and transporting patients from the region to Johannesburg for chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

During the opening, Manzini said she would like to thank the two foundations for the outstanding work they are doing.

“We should strengthen such partnerships for the benefit of our people. I urge our health workers to also utilise such opportunities to check their own health status. We need healthy health workers to strengthen our services for our communities. We should take this project to massive outreaches in our communities,” she said.
