Excellent Khoza from Kildare A hopes to be a model for her club’s future

She has secured her position as a fan favourite at Mabaya Ladies, defeating defenders, scoring crucial goals, and displaying her skills on the field.

SD Mabaya Ladies Football Club’s Excellent Khoza, literally wears her heart on her sleeve whenever she puts on the club’s jersey.

Her goal is to serve as an example for the next generation of players.

Excellent has secured her position as a fan favourite at Mabaya Ladies with her ‘excellent’ play, defeating defenders, scoring vital goals and showing her now signature dance moves.

Mabaya supporters saw a delighted Excellent after the team’s 6-3 victory over the Valencia Ladies in the SAFA Ehlanzeni Regional Women’s League.On July 22, she scored her first hat-trick for the club during the regional league in the match against Gunners Sports in Marite near Hazyview.

She is currently the club’s standout player and has become known for saving a game during this tough regional league.Excellent also scored a brace in May to help the club gain a 2-2 draw against Elister United at Alexandra in the league.

The 17-year-old said she’s always filled with pride whenever she plays for her club, as she wants to leave the team in a better place than she had found it.

“I do not only represent my team or just my family, but I also represent talented kids out there who are shy to come to the sports fields and play the beautiful game of soccer. Here in the rural parts of the country, some kids still think that playing soccer is for men, which is not true. The game is for us all,” she said.

Despite being a striker, the multitalented player also acts as a goalkeeper whenever the club is having a goalie crisis on match days.

She stressed that she wanted to achieve even bigger results within the SD Mabaya Ladies FC.

“It’s very important for us to achieve things as a club. Remember, we are new to this league, so we want to make a mark for the next generation of players who will be part of it and our communities. When they come here, they must know they can’t take things for granted and need to work hard to put their names down in its history. If we do well, we will inspire many young women to be more interested and become part of ladies’ football.”

Excellent praised Sipho Dzimba, the club’s chairperson and CEO for always encouraging them to work harder and to focus on their studies, as well as the team manager and coaches, who always keep pushing them to believe they are capable and can succeed.

Before joining SD Mabaya Ladies FC, Excellent played in school teams to gain experience.

Despite achieving impressive milestones, the Kildare-born footballer is humble, wanting to continually up her game and contribute to Mabaya Ladies’ success.
