Pienaar dancing initiative keeps youngsters entertained
Inkunzi'yamazulu aims to inspire the youth to embrace their culture while having fun.
On a quest to fight unemployment in their community, a group of young people came together to start a dancing group called Inkunziýamazulu.
They perform traditional songs and poetry at local events, as a way to generate an income. The group consists of people from the ages of 14 to 35.

They teach one another the Siswati and isiZulu culture through dancing and other activities. The initiative attracts people from Pienaar, Daantjie and Enkomeni, who attend rehearsals after school and over weekends.

According to one of the founders, Senzo Simango, the aim is to create a safe place for the youth.
“We are inspired by the spirit of togetherness, the pride and joy of embracing our culture. This creates an awareness for those who do not know about these cultures. It encourages them to want to learn more, in terms of how to carry yourself as a young girl or boy, and about the food and traditional music. The fact that we come together for rehearsals is considered a major contributor to changing our society for the better, instead of spending our time in the streets. Young minds unite with a common goal to want to achieve something that will change their communities and their families,” he said.
