Bushbuckridge singer makes it into Idols SA 2023 top 12

Princess McDonald said she is so happy to finally make it into season 19 of Idols SA, because she had been trying to get in since season eight.

“She is no ice princess.”
This is how Idols SA 2023 described Princess McDonald from Bushbuckridge, who made it into the top 12 of season 19.

The contestants were announced on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) and Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163) on Sunday August 13.
This is the very last season of Idols SA after 21 years of airing on SA’s TV screens.

During an interview with Mpumalanga News, this 24-year-old said this is a dream come true for her. She said this is because she had tried to get a golden ticket in the past years, however, she didn’t make it.
“This is my first time making it to perform for the judges. In the past, I would queue, but I would not make it. I started trying my luck in season 8, and now it is season 19, I feel fortunate, because this is the last show that will be aired on TV.”

During her very first performance in front of the judges, she sang Adele’s “Someone like you” and got her golden ticket to theatre week.
She said she chose this song because she knew it well. “I have always told myself that if I ever make it to perform in front of the judges, I will sing it. It is one of my favourite songs, and it is by someone I look up to. I know the lyrics well,” she said.

During the duet round, she sang “Love Me for Me” by Jamali. She made it through, however, her partner, Kenki, did not.
McDonald said she is excited, and is now able to experience what she used to only dream about.
“I grew up singing in church. Now I am in the top 12, and I would like to one day perform during the Billboard Music Awards. My greatest achievement is to continue singing, because I love it. This is a talent I grew up with and it makes me happy. Yes, I would like to win, although if things do not go as wish, I will continue singing.”

McDonald said the support she received from everyone is amazing. “I appreciate everyone who is supporting me, and the people of Bushbuckridge. I am grateful, ”she said.
