Ehlanzeni women in agriculture new leadership elected

The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land and Environmental Affairs' spokesperson, Zanele Shabangu, said the aim of the organasation is to create opportunities for previously disadvantaged women in farming.

Women in Agriculture and Rural Development (WARD) in the Ehlanzeni District has a new leadership structure.
They were recently elected during a gathering held at the Barberton Environmental Centre.

WARD is an organisation aimed at creating opportunities for previously disadvantaged women in farming.
The Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Land and Environmental Affairs’ spokesperson, Zanele Shabangu, said, “The new district WARD committee chairperson is Ester Mhlongo, Thandi Mokoena is her deputy, Busi Sibiya is the secretary, Shirley Mabuza is the deputy secretary, and Julia Shungube is the treasurer. Doreen Mathebula, Colile Dlamini and Melta Mathebula are additional members. They will serve on this committee for a five-year term.”

Meanwhile, the Pollution and Waste Management Unit has welcomed yet another group of Zonda Insila Programme (ZIP) participants.

“They will focus on identifying illegal dumpsites, turn trash into treasure, and create awareness of the benefits of proper disposal of waste for both the environment and human health.

“There are 63 participants from Umjindi, KaNyamazane, Pienaar, KaBokweni and Hazyview. The new appointees have been encouraged by outgoing ZIP participants, like the KaNyamazane-based Imvelo Recyclers, who are now continuing with the recycling business on their own,” said Shabangu.
