Mpumlanga MEC urge public to report law enforcement officials involved in criminal activities

This come after the recent arrest the traffic law enforcement officer, Khanyisile Viola Nyalunga for her alleged involvement in cash in transit on the R40 near Hazyview.

The Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe said law enforcement officers found to be colluding with criminals must be harshly punished due to their actions that undermine that communities’ faith in the security cluster.

This comes after the arrest of an officer recently. A traffic law enforcement officer attached to the City of Mbombela, Khanyisile Viola Nyalunga for her alleged involvement in foiled cash in transit heist on R40 Road near Hazyview.

“Law enforcement officers by their nature are expected to ensure law and order and bring to book those who do the opposite. This, therefore, means they must do their work with absolute honesty at all times.”

“Although government does all it can to ensure that during recruitment stages, right people are hired, some few rotten potatoes by default, find their way into the system and this include law enforcement officers.”

Shongwe said although the case is in court, the allegations are quite damning and undermine the great work many members of the security cluster are doing to serve and protect communities.

He pleaded with the majority of law officers to not allow actions of few individuals to discourage them from doing their work with trustworthiness at all times.

“We spend a considerable amount of money annually to ensure that there is an effective partnership between the community and the police in fighting crime, therefore, rotten potatoes should be removed because they grossly undermine such efforts.”

He said urged officers and the public to report any corrupt activities by government officials through Anti-Corruption Hotline on 0800 701 701.
