MEC for health hosts municipalities and member of the Executive Council in Mbombela

Sasekani Manzini, the MEC for the Department of Health, said both the department and the local municipalities must work hand in hand to ensure health services are provided in a satisfactory manner.

The MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, hosted a Municipalities and Member of the Executive Council (Munmec) meeting at Nutting House Lodge on July 27.

The Munmec is a meeting called by the MEC, directed at the members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) for health from various municipalities. The purpose thereof is to encourage and successfully facilitate well-organised intergovernmental relations between local and provincial government.

The meeting was attended by various role players, including management, hospital CEOs and health MMCs from all municipalities in the province. Some of the issues discussed were the National Health Insurance, HIV/Aids and TB, allowing open discussions and input on how government can improve service delivery, to provide high-quality, efficient and accessible healthcare services that will transform the people’s lives. Munmec also gives the opportunity for the department and municipalities to be able to engage at great length on issues of the provision of healthcare services to the communities.

“We must re-emphasise the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving our healthcare goals. Both health and local municipality should work hand in hand to ensure health services are provided in a satisfactory manner. Our facilities are located within the municipality boundaries, so it is very important for the members who are tasked with health responsibilities in the municipality to oversee health provision within their areas. The MMCs should be able to tell how many facilities are operational in their area. Together we should able to promote the health services to our people,” said Manzini.
