Mpumalanga premier donates R200 000 to local businesses in Matibidi Village for Mandela Day

The premier devoted her 67 minutes at Reakgona Youth Development Centre in the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality.

The premier, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, spent her 67 minutes in Matibidi Village outside Graskop on Tuesday July 18 in celebration of International Nelson Mandela Day.

She donated R200 000 as financial support for three local small, medium and micro enterprises.

The day’s events included renovating the Reakgona Youth Development Centre and cultivating its backyard food garden, with the Thaba Chweu executive mayor, Friddah Nkadimeng, and Kgoshikgadi Clara Mashile.

The centre provides skills training programmes and access to printing facilities for the local community.

Mtshweni-Tsipane also donated 10 computers, 500 books for a library, a printer and a JoJo water tank to the centre.


She said it is important to invest in the youth and elevate the centre to be a useful information hub for the community, as part of continuing Mandela’s vision.

She celebrated the day under the theme ‘It is in your hands: solidarity in reducing climate change and food security’. She said the theme sought to mobilise the community to contribute towards food security and mitigate climate change factors that led to extreme weather conditions.
