Accused for Carolina Hospital attack set for bail hearing

The three accused of the damage of infrastructure and robbery with aggravating circumstances at Carolina Hospital will appear for a formal bail hearing next Monday.

Thamsanqa Vuyo Joloza (21), Themba Malaza (19), and Thabo Khumalo (18) will attend a formal bail hearing at Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 10.

They made their first court appearance on Monday, July 3, facing charges of the damage to infrastructure and robbery with aggravating circumstances at Carolina Hospital.

The case was postponed until Monday and they are remanded in custody.

Initially, the Mpumalanga SAPS anti-gang unit had arrested four people on Friday, June 30.

However, a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the other 18-year-old did not appear as his case was not enrolled in court.

Their arrest came after an incident involving a group of suspects who attacked the staff at the hospital and robbed them their personal belongings on June 17. The police recovered a mobile phone, believed to have been stolen during the robbery.

The suspects had brought two people into the hospital, one who had gunshot wounds and eventually succumbed to his injuries, and the other with a stab wound.
