Lekazi Primary receives sick bay from local business magnate

Businessman Mike Sibiya donated a sick bay to Lekazi Primary School, which will assist learners in case of an emergency.

Passionate about education and the well-being of children, Mpumalanga-based business magnate Mike Sibiya continues to play a significant role in transforming rural and township schools and learners.

His love of education and children saw him give birth to a powerful initiative called Save a Child, which has since inception been advocating for change and the protection of children against bullying, gangsterism and child labour.

Through his company, Ndubane TLG Protection Services, Mike Sibiya , which falls within his TLG Group, Sibiya has adopted a number of schools and have over the years generously donated school uniforms, books and laptops, and even built ablution facilities for some schools.

With most public schools without sick bays, this businessman with a heart of gold is now slowly filling that gap.

To put words into action, he donated a sick bay, fully equipped with all the emergency medical room necessities such as band-aids and aspirin, to Lekazi Primary School on June 10.

This donation makes this township public school one of the few ones in the province to have such an operational facility, which will cater for the learners in case of an emergency. Sibiya, a product of public mainstream education himself, said he understands the pain and trauma of having to wait outside in the cold for medical attention while at school, and decided to change focus and donate such a facility.

“The harsh reality is that many of our public schools do not have such facilities and this becomes a headache for both teachers and parents, because these kids would have to wait outside to be attended to by professional medical practitioners. So this year, we have decided to change the game and add this aspect to a number of items we are donating.”

Last year, he donated free Wi-Fi services and laptops, and installed surveillance cameras for this school after it had been a target of criminals who had stolen school property to the value of R1m between 2020 and 2021.

“This facility is in line with most of the advanced private schools. We strive that our schools should be on equal standards with their counterparts in town, and we are trying to bring back the dignity of our township schools,” he said.
