Ehlanzeni TVET College hosts men’s health workshop

The aim was to educate a generation of young men regarding issues of gender-based violence. Father a Nation was also involved and hosted an interactive presentation.

On a quest to transform young men into great ones, the Ehlanzeni TVET College, in partnership with Father a Nation (FAN) recently held a men’s health workshop at the Mbombela Campus.

The aim of the event was to discuss issues concerning men’s health, to groom a generation of young men to be great, to guide them on how to live with a positive masculinity and to champion for change against gender-based violence (GBV) by building a safe and prosperous nation.

Xolisile Phoku of Higher Health SA was the programme director for the day, and Desmond Majola, the HOD for engineering studies, welcomed everyone.

Sydney Madibo of FAN did an interactive presentation for the students about manhood, teaching them the core principles of authentic masculinity and taking responsibility. “Respect women, protect them and take responsibility for your actions.”

According to one of the students, the session had opened his eyes and has transformed his concept of what characterises a real man.

FAN officials and the campus’ peer educators issued a GBV questionnaire to everyone present during the event, in an attempt to establish where and how it occurs, in order to develop a strategy to provide survivors with a chance of counselling and recovery.
