Community members join forces to bring change to KaNyamazane
Community members came together to clean their local parks and are planning more initiatives.
Some community members came together on Saturday June 10 in a quest to clean up their parks and to bring change to their township.
According to them, they have a dream for their township and they decided to stand up and do something about it.
Sechaba Nkosi of Lekazi Development Initiative (Ledico) said cleaning the local parks is the beginning of the plans they have for their community. Ledico consists of various stakeholders which each plays a role in making sure that all the planned initiatives get done.

The role players are Dr Sinky Kangobe Nkosi, Simangaliso Mpila, Mandla Simelane, Sibusiso Mashiane and Richard Lubisi.
“We want investors to see a place in which they can invest their money and we can do this by cleaning up our community. We want young people to be employed and if we can attract businesses or investors that can be possible,” said Nkosi.
He said they are not politically affiliated to any party and they are doing this as residents who are hungry for change.

“This initiative is not about politics, it is about bringing change for the people by the people. We are behind when it comes to economic development in townships, compared to others. We need to have a local economic development strategy and spatial planning for a conducive environment for investors. One of our projects is to ensure that KaNyamazane has a mall, not the plaza we currently have. This township should contribute to the regional economy, as Mozambique and eSwatini are our neighbours and they have already tapped into our local economic opportunities. For example, we must have Mozambican and eSwatinian banks and restaurants. When this happens, there will be tourists from those countries and there will be local economic spin-off. Our car wash, restaurants and guest houses will have a market and be able to employ a lot of locals. We are planning to help formalise the street markets and salons around Gugu Centre and we intend to engage with the municipality,” he said.
Nkosi said their next programme is to fix potholes, and after that they will have another project to do.
