Learners compete in the 2023 science school competition finals in Lowveld Botanical Garden
The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency and its partners held yet another successful science competition, which saw learners from various schools competing.
National Water Month 2023 began on March 1, with the Crocodile Sub-catchment’s Regional Science School Competition’s kick-off. The finals were held today, March 23, at the Lowveld Botanical Garden.
The competition has been co-ordinated and hosted by the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency and its partners within the water management area for over eight years. It is aimed at developing Grade 10 and 11 learners’ thinking, research, reporting and cognitive skills.

“The schools targeted are from historically disadvantaged communities. The Department of Education provided information of schools and learners who are doing science and mathematics, from information from the district and circuit offices. These identified schools and learners participated in this competition.”
“The objective of the competition is to raise awareness of Integrated Water Resource Management and to showcase its role in the socio-economic development of the country. This is also intended to spark the interest of learners in the field of science and engineering with specific focus on water science.”

The prize-giving will be held after all the programmes on the day.
