Car parked at KMI Airport for over four years – owner not missing, just in love

A BMW X3 parked at the KMI Airport before Covid-19 has been there ever since. Happily, this is not a story of tragedy.

A BMW X3 Series that has been parked at the KMI Airport for over four years now, has finally been linked to a story of love.

The vehicle, which has endured all kinds of weather conditions, has been parked at the airport since 2019 when the owner, a man in his early 30s, moved to Europe.

“The car was parked here the year before Covid-19 started. We noticed when everything went back to normal that the car was still there and was not being moved. We did an internal investigation and have made means to reach out to the owner. We found that he had moved to Europe just before the pandemic and has found love on the other side, so he decided not to come back even when things returned to normal,” said Clive van Zyl, KMI Airport’s operations manager.

According to Van Zyl, the young man was working in some of the lodges around the Kruger National Park. He would normally travel abroad and come back.

“We had made arrangements with him that he should have the car collected. If that doesn’t happen, we will have to get the police involved so they can take it to their storages – he would have to fetch it from there,” said Van Zyl.
