The party’s shutdown is said to be aimed at addressing social and economic challenges faced by South Africans.

As the protesters proceed with the protests, some roads were closed and no taxis are running for commuters. The buses appear to be operating in some communities. The protesters are out and about, striking, however, some areas have not been affected at all.

Here are some of the areas affected and how they are affected:

Masoyi:
Five EFF members were reportedly arrested for damage of property in Madlela on the Numbi road.
The Masoyi SAPS had to address some EFF members to exercise their rights in such a manner that does not damage property. The newspaper is still waiting for further information from the SAPS regarding this matter.

Matsafeni:
All roads into and out of Matsafeni were closed early this morning, although the police dispersed the protesters later on and opened the roads. They had been blocked with refuse, branches and rocks. Some residents could not make it to work. The police are currently patrolling the area and the protesters are still demonstrating.
