Mpumalanga Department of Education prepares for school admission processes
According to the DoE spokesperson, Jasper Zwane the department has directed that the admission of learners must be concluded within ten days after the re-opening of schools.
The Mpumalanga Department of Education (DoE) said it has already set in motion processes to ensure the smooth reopening of schools for 2023. The schools are set to reopen on Wednesday January 11.
On Tuesday January 10, the DoE’s spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said the admission of the majority of learners has progressed very well, but there are learners who have still to be admitted, mainly in the fast-growing towns within the province. He said the department has directed that the admission of learners must be concluded within 10 days after the reopening of schools.

“The eMalahleni area is still making efforts to admit 347 Grade One learners and 379 Grade Eight learners. Mbombela has 104 Grade Ones and 280 Grade Eights who need to be admitted. Steve Tshwete has 50 Grade Eights and 14 who still have to be placed. Victor Khanye has 52 Grade Ones and 28 Grade Eights still need to be placed. Secunda has 681 Grade Ones and about 1 414 Grade Eights who are still to be placed in surrounding schools.”
Zwane said each district has an admission team that will work closely with parents to accelerate all outstanding cases of admission.

“Parents are requested to register their children in schools that are closer to their residence. This will ensure that they do not incur costs for transport and will enable their children to participate in Curriculum Enrichment Programmes at school. It will also be easy for parents to attend to school activities and meetings.”
He said the department had delivered learning and teaching support material to all schools in November.
